A new Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462) arrangement between Australia and Peru commenced on 1 October 2017 and applications can now be lodged. This reciprocal arrangement allows up to 100 young Peruvians and Australians per year (1 July to 30 June) to have an extended holiday of up to 12 months in each other's country, during which they can undertake short-term work and study. On 18 April 2017, the Government announced that the Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457 visa) will be abolished and replaced with the completely new Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa in March 2018. Prime Minister of Australia, Malcolm Turnbull has announced that the government will abolish 457 visas. Current visa holders will not be affected by the changes, which will see the introduction of two new temporary skills visas — a two-year visa and a more specialised one for four years "targeted at higher skills". Australia is making it quicker and easier to apply for many visas. From 1 October 2015, access to electronic (online) lodgement for Visitor visas (subclass 600) and Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity) visas (subclass 400) will be made available to passport holders of the Russian Federation.
